Meacham Grove

Visitors at the 252-acre Meacham Grove Forest Preserve in Bloomingdale will find woodland groves, meadows, a fishing lake, wetlands and the meandering Spring Brook Creek. The extensive groves of stately oaks and maples are home to a host of spring wildflowers, including some endangered species. The wetlands support a variety of wildlife from great egrets to western chorus frogs.

In addition to its natural beauty and recreational opportunities, the forest preserve serves the community by collecting and filtering stormwater overflow.

Recreation

Picnicking

Picnickers can spread a blanket in any of Meacham Grove’s mowed grassy areas.

Ground fires are prohibited, but visitors may bring their own grills.

For everyone’s convenience, Meacham Grove offers drinking water and portable toilets.

Trails

Hikers, bicyclists and cross-country skiers can explore 2.5 miles of limestone trails, which loop around the lake and through the adjacent wetlands. This stretch provides an excellent opportunity to observe great egrets, great blue herons, a variety of swallows, and other native wildlife, including beavers and dragonflies.

The trail continues west through wetland and woodland before crossing Bloomingdale- Roselle Road via a pedestrian bridge. Here on the west side of Meacham Grove, a 0.5-mile looped path, which is designated solely for foot traffic, features spectacular spring displays of native trillium.

Fishing

Just west of the parking lot is Maple Lake, a 32-acre fishing lake with a maximum depth of 36 feet. The Forest Preserve District stocks the lake with largemouth bass and channel catfish. The lake also features bluegill and crappie.
Anglers 16 and older who are not legally disabled must have valid Illinois sport fishing licenses in their possession. All anglers must follow all District and state regulations.

Dogs

Dogs are welcome at Meacham Grove but must be on leashes no greater than 10 feet in length.
