Spring Creek Reservoir

Loading...

Visitors to the 90-acre Spring Creek Reservoir Forest Preserve in Bloomingdale will find an oak savanna, meadows and an immature woodland surrounding the reservoir. The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County has cleared nonnative species and underbrush from the savanna, and the preserve is now home to a variety of vegetation and wildlife.

Water levels in the reservoir can fluctuate greatly as it catches overflow from Springbrook Creek, which makes the reservoir a much-needed flood-control area for surrounding homes and businesses.

Recreation

Picnicking

Picnickers can reserve Spring Creek Reservoir’s 50-person shelter through Visitor Services at (630) 933-7248 but must do so at least three business days before their visit. Visitors can set up picnic blankets in other areas of the preserve.

Ground fires are prohibited, but visitors may bring their own grills and use the on-site hot-coal disposal containers.

For everyone’s convenience, Spring Creek Reservoir offers a water pump and restrooms with flush toilets.

Trails

With a half mile of shoreline and several benches scattered along the asphalt trail, Spring Creek Reservoir Forest Preserve is popular with exercise enthusiasts.

More than a mile of hard-surfaced trail is accessible to individuals with wheelchairs and is great for walking, jogging, biking or in-line skating.

Fishing

The reservoir has an average depth of 15 feet, although during floods it can fluctuate to 55 feet. Anglers frequently catch bass, catfish, bluegill and sunfish.

Anglers 16 and older who are not legally disabled must have valid Illinois sport fishing licenses in their possession. All anglers must follow all District and state regulations.

As a result of unpredictable year-round fluctuations in water levels, winter recreational activities, including ice fishing, are not allowed at the forest preserve.

Dogs

Dogs are welcome at Spring Creek Reservoir but must be on leashes no greater than 10 feet in length.
