Plant a Butterfly Garden

Butterfly Garden

Here are some tips to help you grow a butterfly garden in your own backyard

A butterfly's favorite food is nectar, which is a sugary liquid found in flowers. To attract butterflies to your garden, plant flowers that contain a lot of nectar, like daisies, marigolds, snapdragons, lilacs, zinnias and a butterfly favorite – butterfly bush!

Butterflies use the wind to help them fly, but it's hard for butterflies to sip nectar when it gets too windy. Try to plant your garden in a place that's sheltered from the wind.

Butterflies need sunlight for energy, so be sure to put some flat, light-colored rocks in a sunny spot around your garden for butterflies to rest on.

Like you, butterflies need to drink water to survive, so water your garden every day. And don't use pesticides in your garden because they might harm the butterflies.

With a little luck, your garden will reward you with a wondrous look into the world of these amazing insect.
