Join the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County to discover many ways to enjoy the season during the free “Wonders of Winter” event on Saturday, Feb. 4, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Mayslake Forest Preserve in Oak Brook. Activities at this open house take place outdoors and inside Mayslake Hall, and visitors of all ages are invited.
Learn how to reel in a lunker through the ice, and if conditions are right step out on the lake to try ice fishing. Strap on a pair of snowshoes to find out how to trek across snowy trails. Experience geocaching, take a horse-drawn wagon ride and visit with a dog-sled team. See birds of prey from Willowbrook Wildlife Center’s raptor-education program, and learn about ice cutting from Kline Creek Farm. Get tips for taking better photographs in winter. And, step inside historic Mayslake Hall for games and crafts offered by partner nature centers. Then, top it all off with a s’more toasted over a fire.
