Visitors to the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County’s Silver Lake at Blackwell Forest Preserve in Warrenville and Herrick Lake at Herrick Lake Forest Preserve in Wheaton will soon be able to enjoy the lakes from the best possible location — on the water.
Boat-rental operations will open for weekend days at Blackwell on April 4 and at Herrick Lake on May 2, operating from 8 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. at both lakes. Boat rentals will be offered daily from Memorial Day, May 25, through Labor Day, Sept. 7, operating from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on weekdays and from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on weekends. After Labor Day, boat rental operations will return to weekends only through Sept. 27, operating from 8 a.m. until 5:30 p.m.
A variety of boats can be rented for a fee by the hour or by the day. Canoes, kayaks and rowboats are $10 per hour and $50 per day. Rowboats with trolling motors are available only at Blackwell, and rental costs are $15 per hour and $75 per day.
Personal flotation devices, oars and paddles are provided with rental boats, canoes and kayaks. No boats will be rented during the last hour the boat-rental facilities are open.
