Join the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County to discover many outdoor activities you can enjoy this season during the "Wonders of Winter" event on Saturday, Feb. 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Mayslake Forest Preserve in Oak Brook.

Visitors of all ages can explore a variety of activities at this annual event. Learn how to reel in a lunker through the ice, and, if the ice is safe, step out on the lake to try ice fishing. Step into a pair of snowshoes or cross-country skis, and check out the latest in other cold-weather clothing and equipment. Try out geocaching, and discover the principles of "Leave No Trace." Create a winter treat for the birds, and make s’mores over an open fire. Take a horse-drawn wagon ride, or join a guided nature walk. Using 1890s techniques and tools, find out how ice was harvested in winter and stored for use all year. See birds of prey from Willowbrook Wildlife Center’s raptor-education program. Learn about cold-water-rescue through a demonstration. Get tips for taking better photographs in winter.

"Wonders of Winter" admission and parking are free. Mayslake Forest Preserve is located at 1717 W. 31st St., one-quarter mile west of Route 83. For more information, call 630-933-7248.
