Learn how to make a farm-style supper using the tools and techniques of the 1890s during "Supper on the Wood-Burning Stove" class on Saturday, Jan. 31 from
9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Kline Creek Farm in Winfield.

In this hands-on experience, cook in the farmhouse kitchen using an authentic wood-burning stove from the Victorian era. Create a full homemade meal of beef stew and buttermilk biscuits. Try a hand at churning butter for the biscuits, and top them with jams canned at the farm last summer. Learn how to make egg coffee, and complete the meal with hot pie for dessert.

Also, hear the historical context of the recipes you’ll cook. Find out which ingredients were available during winter, and learn how foods were stored and preserved. At the end of the class, sit down to enjoy the freshly prepared meal, and take home instructions and recipes for modern kitchens.

"Supper on the Wood-Burning Stove" class costs $25 per person. Reservations must be made in advance by calling the farm at 630-876-5900.
