For Immediate Release

Every spring, eager anglers await opening day for rainbow trout fishing. This year, the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County is offering a new program to kick off the season just for children ages 15 and under. “Kids Trout Fishing Day” is free and takes place on Saturday, April 4 from 6 a.m. to noon at Wood Dale Grove Forest Preserve in Wood Dale.
“The program’s goal is to excite kids about the sport by creating a relaxed learning environment on one of the most fun fishing days of the year,” says Don LaBrose, the District’s fisheries biologist. During the event, young anglers will have the southern area of the 9-acre Grove Lake reserved for them. Staff and volunteers will be on hand to offer instruction, bait and loaner poles.
“I’m excited to build community support for this new program, and volunteers for the event and donations of trout-fishing staples like PowerBait would be welcome,” adds LaBrose.
The entire lake will open to all anglers after the event ends at noon. This year, to ensure that there are plenty of fish to go around, Grove Lake will be stocked with an additional 300 pounds of rainbow trout. At all lakes, anglers ages 16 and older are required to have valid Illinois fishing licenses with inland trout stamps in their possession.
