Blackwell Forest Preserve Archery Open House
Blackwell Forest Preserve's archery range in Warrenville recently hosted an archery open house. More than 200 participants participated in the event's beginning archery instruction and shooting. Many of the District's rangers - certified in archery - instructed guests.
In addition, several organizations partnered to provide a family-oriented experience at the event. Representatives from Auroraland Archers, Chicago Bow Hunters, Junior Olympic Archery Development, Ten Ring Archery, Gander Mountain, Northern Illinois Hunting and Fishing Days and eight-time national champion Nancy Zorn attended the event. Some participants from these organizations set up displays about archery history, equipment, etiquette and safety.
Blackwell offers an archery range for individuals interested in this classical sport. A permit is not required to use the area, but the range is for archery use only. Archers may use arrows with target heads but not broad heads. For the safety and enjoyment of all visitors, those using the area must comply with all rules posted at the range.
Plans are in the works for hosting an open house at the archery range in the future.
