Springbrook Prairie Forest Preserve!
Springbrook Prairie Forest Preserve in Naperville is one natural area that has reaped the rewards of conservation. The preserve teems with wildlife – including many state-threatened and endangered species and others greatly in need of conservation – as result to stewardship extended to the land by the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County and its natural-resources management volunteers.
To begin, we will visit our mission and vision, for these are why the District – as an organization – does what it does. Our mission is to “… to acquire and hold lands … for the purpose of protecting and preserving the flora, fauna, and scenic beauty for the education, pleasure, and recreation of its citizens.”
From our commissioners to our natural resources staff, from our planning staff to our land management staff, all strive to make the experiences at the species-enriched Springbrook Prairie educational and recreational.
Many of the decisions and contracts concerning management at Springbrook Prairie are made by the Forest Preserve District’s Board of Commissioners. We thank them for helping us to make the prairie sustainable, beautiful and enjoyable for DuPage County’s citizens.
We also thank David Davis, a Springbrook Prairie Forest Preserve visitor, for capturing many of the stunning wildlife photographs at the prairie and used in our program. Other images supplied courtesy of Willowbrook Wildlife Center volunteer Gary Davis and the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service.
